SubSorted is designed to help you understand and manage your subscriptions without compromising your privacy. This policy explains, in clear terms, what data SubSorted does — and does not — collect, how your data is handled, and what control you have.

Who we are

SubSorted is developed and operated by Chris Waud, a sole trader trading as SubSorted, based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for any personal data processed through the app.

We process data on the basis of legitimate interest (providing the service you chose to use) and your explicit consent (for optional features such as notifications, camera access, microphone access, and speech recognition).

Our privacy principles

SubSorted is built around a few simple principles:

  • Your data stays on your device
  • We don't track you
  • We don't access your bank
  • We don't sell or share data
  • We collect only what is necessary to run the app
  • Privacy is not a feature — it's the default.

What data SubSorted stores

SubSorted stores subscription information only on your device.

This may include:

  • Subscription names (e.g. Netflix, Spotify)
  • Renewal dates
  • Prices and billing frequency
  • Optional profiles (e.g. Personal, Family)
  • Optional notes or reminders
  • Optional receipt or screenshot images you choose to scan

This data is stored locally on your phone and is not uploaded to our servers.

What data SubSorted does not collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to:

  • Your bank account or card details
  • Your transaction history
  • Your email inbox
  • Your contacts
  • Your location
  • Your identity or personal profile
  • Your device ID or advertising ID
  • Usage analytics or behavioural tracking
  • Crash reporting tied to you personally

SubSorted does not use:

  • Advertising SDKs
  • Third-party analytics
  • Social tracking pixels
  • Data brokers

Receipts and screenshots

If you choose to scan a receipt or screenshot:

  • Text recognition is performed on your device
  • We do not send your images to our servers
  • Third-party SDKs (e.g. for text recognition) may download model files to your device; your receipt or screenshot image is not sent to us
  • You can review extracted details before saving, and delete images at any time

Receipt scanning is optional. You can always add subscriptions manually.

Sharing from other apps

If you share a receipt or screenshot from Mail, Files, Photos, or another app using your device's share feature: SubSorted only receives the specific file you choose to share. We do not access your email inbox, read your emails, or scan any files you have not explicitly shared. All processing happens on your device — nothing is uploaded to our servers. You can review the extracted details before saving, cancel without saving anything, and delete shared images at any time.

Voice input

SubSorted offers an optional voice input feature to help you add subscriptions by speaking. If you choose to use it:

  • Speech recognition is processed on your device using your operating system's built-in speech services
  • Audio is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to SubSorted servers
  • On iOS, Apple's speech recognition service may process audio to convert it to text — this is handled by Apple under their own privacy policy
  • On Android, Google's speech recognition service may process audio similarly under Google's privacy policy
  • SubSorted only receives the resulting text, not the audio itself
  • You can review and edit the recognised text before saving anything

Voice input requires microphone and speech recognition permissions, which you can revoke at any time in your device settings. Voice input is entirely optional — you can always add subscriptions manually or by scanning.

Reminders and notifications

If you enable reminders:

  • Notifications are scheduled locally on your device
  • We do not know when you receive notifications
  • We do not log notification interactions

You can disable reminders at any time in the app or in your device settings.

Biometric authentication

If you enable Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint lock:

  • Biometric data is handled entirely by your device's operating system
  • SubSorted never sees, stores, or transmits your biometric information
  • We only receive a yes/no authentication result from the system

You can disable biometric lock at any time in the app settings.

Backups

SubSorted offers an optional encrypted backup feature:

  • Backups are created locally on your device and encrypted with a password you choose
  • SubSorted does not know or store your backup password — if you lose it, we cannot recover your backup
  • You may choose to share the encrypted backup file using your device's share sheet (e.g. to save it in Files, email it to yourself, or transfer it to another device)
  • Backup files are not uploaded to SubSorted servers
  • Where the backup file goes after you share it depends on the service you choose — SubSorted has no control over that

Backups are entirely optional. You are always in control of whether and where your data is exported.

Premium features and payments

If you choose to upgrade to SubSorted Premium:

  • Payments are handled by the App Store or Play Store
  • We do not receive your payment details, billing address, or card information

Subscription management:

We use RevenueCat, a third-party service, to manage Premium subscriptions. RevenueCat:

  • Receives an anonymous identifier to track your subscription status
  • Does not receive your name, email, or personal details
  • Does not receive your payment card or billing information
  • Processes basic device information (OS version, app version) for compatibility

Our App Store App Privacy section lists the data types we and our service providers (including RevenueCat) use — for example, purchase history for subscription status. Please check that section for full details.

We do not profile Premium users or treat them differently in terms of data handling.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data.

There are no advertisers, affiliates, or partners receiving your information.

The only exception would be if we are legally required to comply with a lawful request — and even then, we cannot provide data we do not have.

Information collected on this website

When you visit the SubSorted website:

  • we do not use tracking cookies
  • we do not use analytics services

If you contact us by email:

  • we receive your email address and the content of your message
  • this information is used only to respond to your enquiry

We do not use your contact details for marketing unless you explicitly ask us to.

Cookies

This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Only essential technical functionality provided by your browser is used.

Data retention

Because SubSorted is local-first:

  • Your data remains on your device until you delete it
  • You can export your subscription data at any time via Settings
  • Uninstalling the app removes all stored data
  • There is no central account to delete because there is no central account

If future optional cloud features are added, they will be opt-in and covered by an updated privacy policy.

Emails you send to us may be retained for support and legal purposes and are deleted when no longer needed.

Your rights (UK & GDPR)

Under UK GDPR, you have rights including:

  • The right to access your data
  • The right to delete your data
  • The right to restrict processing

In SubSorted, these rights are built in by design:

  • You already have full access to your data
  • You can delete individual subscriptions or all data at any time
  • We do not process your data remotely

Children's privacy

SubSorted is not intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy:

  • We will update the date at the top
  • Significant changes will be communicated clearly in the app
  • We will never quietly reduce your privacy protections.
