Sky Mobile launched in 2017 and now has over 1 million UK customers. Whether you're switching to a cheaper network, upgrading to a better deal, or simply don't need mobile service anymore, cancelling Sky Mobile depends on whether you're switching networks (PAC code) or stopping service entirely (30 days' notice).
This guide walks you through exactly how to cancel Sky Mobile in the UK, including how to get a PAC code, what you'll pay if you're in contract, what happens to Sky Swap, and how to keep your phone number.
. Steps match current Sky Mobile cancellation process. Official help: Sky: Cancel or transfer your mobile number.
Before you cancel: understand your contract type
Sky Mobile offers two contract types, and what you pay to cancel depends on which one you have:
1. Phone contract (handset + airtime)
You're paying for a phone plus monthly service. Typical contracts are 24 or 36 months.
- If you cancel early: You pay the remaining handset cost in full on your final bill
- Example: 12 months left on a £30/month plan = £360 remaining handset cost
- Airtime: Stops immediately once you switch or cancel (no early exit fee for the service itself)
2. SIM-only contract
You're only paying for monthly service (data, calls, texts). No phone is included.
- Minimum term: Usually 12 months, then rolling monthly
- If you cancel during minimum term: £0 early exit fee (you just give 30 days' notice)
- If you're out of contract: Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice, no fee
Log in to My Sky or the Sky Mobile app → Your plan → View contract details. If you're in contract, you'll see your end date and remaining handset cost.
The two ways to cancel Sky Mobile
Option 1: Switch to another network (PAC code) — Recommended
If you're switching to EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, or any other UK network, use a PAC code (Porting Authorisation Code). This:
- Transfers your phone number automatically
- Your new provider cancels Sky Mobile for you (no need to call Sky)
- You keep service until the switch happens (usually 1 working day)
- Sky gives 30 days' notice automatically
Option 2: Cancel directly with Sky Mobile (stop service entirely)
If you're not switching to another network (e.g. going abroad, no longer need mobile), you must call Sky Mobile to cancel directly. You'll lose your phone number.
How to get a PAC code from Sky Mobile (switching networks)
Getting a PAC code from Sky Mobile is instant and free.
Method 1: Text message (fastest)
- From your Sky Mobile phone, text PAC to 65075
- You'll receive your PAC code by text within 60 seconds
- The PAC code is 9 characters (3 letters, 6 numbers)
- It's valid for 30 days
Example PAC code: ABC123456
Method 2: Call Sky Mobile
- Call 0333 759 5242 (free from UK mobiles)
- Say "PAC code" when prompted
- Sky will give you the PAC code immediately over the phone or by text
Opening hours: 8am–8pm every day
Method 3: Online via My Sky (slower)
- Log in to My Sky
- Go to Sky Mobile → Manage
- Select Leave Sky Mobile
- Choose Get your PAC code
- Sky sends the PAC by text within 2 hours
If you don't give your PAC to a new provider within 30 days, it expires. You can request a new one anytime by texting PAC to 65075 again.
How to use your PAC code (switching to a new network)
- Order a SIM or contract from your new network (EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, giffgaff, etc.)
- Give them your PAC code during sign-up or after activating your new SIM
- Your new provider arranges the switch with Sky Mobile automatically
- Your number transfers within 1 working day (usually next working day at 5pm)
- Sky Mobile service stops when the switch completes
- Sky sends your final bill within 2 weeks
What happens on switch day
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| Before 5pm | Sky Mobile still works normally |
| Around 5pm | Your phone loses signal for 2–30 minutes |
| After 5pm | Your new network is active with your old number |
Restart your phone after the switch to ensure it connects to the new network properly.
How to cancel Sky Mobile directly (not switching networks)
If you're stopping mobile service entirely, you must cancel directly with Sky Mobile. You'll lose your phone number.
Cancel by phone
- Call 0333 759 5242
- Say "Cancel" when prompted
- Speak to the retentions team (they may offer a discount or better deal)
- Confirm you want to cancel
- Sky gives 30 days' notice from the call date
- Ask for a cancellation reference number
Cancel online (out-of-contract only)
If you're out of contract and have a SIM-only plan, you can cancel online:
- Log in to My Sky
- Go to Sky Mobile → Manage → Leave Sky Mobile
- Select Cancel my service
- Choose your cancellation date (minimum 30 days from today)
- Confirm cancellation
If you're in contract or have a phone plan, you must call to cancel.
Early exit fees: what you'll pay if you're in contract
Phone contracts
You pay the remaining handset cost in full on your final bill.
How to calculate it:
- Check My Sky or your latest bill for "Outstanding handset balance"
- Or: Months remaining × monthly handset cost
Example 1:
- You're paying £35/month total
- £25/month is airtime, £10/month is handset
- 12 months left on contract
- Early exit fee: 12 × £10 = £120
Example 2:
- You're paying £50/month total for iPhone 15
- £15/month airtime, £35/month handset
- 18 months left on 36-month contract
- Early exit fee: 18 × £35 = £630
SIM-only contracts
£0 early exit fee. You just give 30 days' notice and pay for those 30 days. No penalty charge.
If you've used Sky Swap to upgrade your phone mid-contract, you started a new 24-month contract. Your contract end date and outstanding handset balance are reset. Check My Sky for your current remaining balance.
What happens after you cancel
Your final bill
Sky sends your final bill within 2 weeks of cancellation. It includes:
- 30 days' notice period charges (airtime)
- Remaining handset cost (if you're in contract)
- Any outstanding charges or credits
- Pro-rata refund if you've paid in advance
The bill is usually taken via Direct Debit within 14 days. Sky Mobile does not require equipment returns (you own the phone).
What happens to your phone?
You keep it. Once you've paid the remaining handset cost (or finished your contract), the phone is yours. It's unlocked and works with any UK network.
Sky Mobile phones have been unlocked by default since 2021. If you have an older phone, check with Sky Mobile to confirm it's unlocked before switching.
What happens to Sky Swap?
Sky Swap eligibility ends when you leave Sky Mobile. If you've recently used Sky Swap:
- You're on a new 24-month contract with a new handset balance
- You must pay the remaining handset cost if you cancel early
- You keep the phone once paid
What happens to Roll Data?
Sky Mobile's Roll Data feature (unused data rolls over for 3 years) stops when you cancel. You lose any rolled data.
What happens to Sky Piggybank rewards?
If you're a Sky TV customer with Sky Piggybank rewards on your Sky Mobile bill, those rewards stop when you cancel Sky Mobile. Rewards linked to Sky TV continue normally.
Common questions
Can I cancel Sky Mobile without paying an early exit fee?
Only if:
- You have a SIM-only contract (just give 30 days' notice, no fee)
- Your phone contract has ended (you've completed 24 or 36 months)
- You're within the 14-day cooling-off period (new customers only)
- Sky Mobile increased your price mid-contract (30 days to cancel penalty-free from notification)
Otherwise, you'll pay the remaining handset cost if you're on a phone contract.
What if Sky Mobile increased my price mid-contract?
Sky Mobile usually increases prices in March/April each year by inflation (RPI) plus up to 3.9%. This is allowed under your contract.
Sky must notify you 30 days in advance. You have 30 days from the notification date to cancel penalty-free (no early exit fee for handset cost).
If you miss the 30-day window, you'll pay the remaining handset cost as normal.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes. Request a PAC code by texting PAC to 65075. Give the PAC to your new provider within 30 days, and your number transfers automatically when you switch.
If you cancel directly with Sky Mobile (not switching), you lose your phone number permanently.
Can I pause Sky Mobile instead of cancelling?
No. Sky Mobile does not offer a pause or hold option. You can only cancel. If you want service again later, you'll need to sign up as a new customer.
What if I'm moving abroad?
You can cancel penalty-free if you're moving permanently outside the UK and Sky Mobile can't provide service at your new location. Call 0333 759 5242 and explain. You may need proof of relocation (e.g. visa, rental agreement).
Can I cancel if I'm in a bundle with Sky TV/Broadband?
Yes. Sky Mobile is a separate contract from Sky TV and Sky Broadband. You can cancel Sky Mobile without affecting your other Sky services.
However, if you have bundle discounts or Sky Piggybank rewards, those may change. Check My Sky or call to confirm.
What if I cancel my Direct Debit instead of cancelling Sky Mobile?
Cancelling the Direct Debit does not cancel your Sky Mobile contract. Sky will:
- Contact you for payment
- Send paper bills
- Eventually suspend your service
- Report non-payment to credit agencies, which affects your credit score
Always cancel the contract with Sky Mobile first, then cancel the Direct Debit after your final bill is paid.
If you need help cancelling Direct Debits, see our bank-by-bank Direct Debit cancellation guide.
How long does it take to cancel Sky Mobile?
- Switching with PAC: 1 working day (usually next working day at 5pm)
- Direct cancellation: 30 days from the date you give notice
What if Sky Mobile refuses to cancel or delays my PAC code?
Sky Mobile must provide a PAC code immediately when requested (within 60 seconds by text, or instantly by phone). If they refuse or delay:
- Request a deadlock letter (ask for this during the call)
- Contact the Communications Ombudsman at commsombudsman.org
- The Ombudsman will investigate and can force Sky Mobile to comply
You cannot contact the Ombudsman until Sky has given you a deadlock letter or 8 weeks have passed since your complaint.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
Only if you've paid in advance and cancel mid-month. Sky Mobile refunds unused days on a pro-rata basis.
For example, if you pay £20/month and cancel on the 15th day of a 30-day month, Sky refunds £10.
Refunds appear on your final bill as a credit, or Sky refunds your bank account within 14 days.
- Check your contract end date (My Sky or Sky Mobile app)
- Decide: switching networks or stopping entirely?
- If switching: Text PAC to 65075 → give PAC to new provider → number transfers in 1 working day
- If stopping: Call 0333 759 5242 → give 30 days' notice → lose your number
- If in contract: Pay remaining handset cost on final bill (phone contracts only)
- If SIM-only: £0 early exit fee, just pay 30 days' notice
Your phone is yours to keep (unlocked, works with any UK network).
